Carlisle Historic Quarter

Carlisle Historic Quarter

Boasting a 2000 year history, Carlisle has a unique story to share.

Carlisle Renaissance is supporting Living Frontier events as part of its push to raise the profile of Carlisle’s rich heritage story, with the Historic Quarter as its showcase.

As the setting for the Living Frontier, Carlisle’s Historic Quarter is a fascinating mix. It includes the outstanding Hadrian’s Wall world heritage site, Carlisle Cathedral – founded in 1122 and one of the country’s smallest – the medieval fortress of Carlisle Castle, which has watched over the city for over nine centuries, and the award-winning Tullie House museum and gallery.
